Who feels likes they are starting over in February? Me too!! Plus, for a lot of people, February is the month where they have forgotten all about their resolutions and are back to their old ways. So this post will come in handy for those that need a little push!

Let me tell you, you are not alone.

The month of January was a huge self-reflection for me. I know that Thrive Rally was a huge priority for me but there were so many things happening around me that were really affecting my mood and motivation. So January has been a huge month to get my priorities in check and just say “NO!” to a lot of things that were just not making me happy and were leading to nowhere. 

I now feel ready for a reset. 

If you are feeling the same and need your reset, I am sharing some tips to jump-start your year and make this one your most productive year!

Health

Our mental and physical health is the foundation of everything we do. If your stressed and drained, you will not be fully present in all the things you want to do. 

I come from plenty of experience where stress and anxiety just riddled my life and I felt I couldn’t manage or deal with anything else. As they say, if you don’t have your health, you don’t have anything. It’s important to do your annual check-up and make sure all is alright. Along with that, schedule an appointment with a nutritionist to make sure you are not eating anything that your body doesn’t agree with. Feeling like you’re always getting a headache? Do you drink enough water in the day? They say it is best to drink half of your weight in ounces of water a day.

Making steps to see what is going on inside of you is a huge step to feeling good in the outside. Take a Friday off and schedule all of your appointments and get them out of the way. 

Money

You signed up to this course, that program, that private Facebook group that you get nothing out of it. Get in control of your money honey! 

Review your finances and all your subscriptions to make sure you aren’t wasting money.  There are apps that help you see all this in one place and cancel within the app. Here are some free apps to try: TrueBill, Mint, and Clarity Money

In addition, look at your savings. Did you save anything in 2017? Not as much as you wanted? Automate it! No one is perfect and sometimes we forget to move any extra funds to our savings.

They say it’s best to save 10% of each paycheck. Use apps that help monitor your expenses and save for you without really feeling it could be your best bet, my favorite app for this is: Digit. It reviews your account to see your spending habits and based on its review it starts saving for you here and there. Guys, I don’t even feel it. You can also set up savings goals to save for that vacation this year!

Decluttering 

We are littered with distractions, even in our own home spaces. Clear the clutter in your home and keep what you really need. Make sure everything has its place. Have a closet full of clothes but feel that you never have anything to wear? Cut what you haven’t wore in years, that’s really faded or out of style and make room for quality items. 

Even for the items that you bought and wore ones, pile all of those items to donate to your locate shelter. 

Schedule Fun 

Felt like you were just too overwhelmed in 2017? Didn’t get to experience life to the fullest? Schedule your fun in your calendar. Block out all the long weekend holidays, the birthday weekend for those you love and the vacation you’re planning this year. 

These don’t need to elaborate vacations but plan to explore your backyard. Start adding all the things and places you wanted to do this year. Look at sites like Eventbrite and Thrillist to see what is happening in your area and start having some fun! 

Happiness = Productive

Technology 

Just like your home space, you need to clean-up your digital space. We are all obsessed with our phones but we shouldn’t let it run our day. 

Turn off your notifications on your phone to help you from the scrolling. To go a step further, turn on the do not disturb on your phone when you want full concentration. I do this all the time during my day job. 

Don’t think you spend a lot of time on Facebook and Instagram use apps to keep track of your usage and it might surprise you. Apps to try: In Moment & RealizD

Another distraction is the overwhelm of email subscriptions. Use Unroll.me to unsubscribe from all the clutter on the inbox.

    Great tips! I feel like I’m on the right track, but I could use a little more motivation to work harder on my goals. I still need to work on my spending though, there is definitely room for improvement there.

      Hi Johanne!! Great to hear that you’re on the right track! I definitely recommend the Digit app. Also, I have a Capital One savings account where I don’t have a card for (so no temptation for withdrawals) and takes days to transfer to your checking account so it makes you think twice before you transfer and tiny interest gets added in there from time to time.     Think we are doing pretty good this year. We have scheduled two trips for the year. Been decluttering like made which makes me feel really good. Will pay off the house in few months. Going good.

    Great tips! I’m working hard on decluttering, but definitely want to schedule in more fun! I’m going to check out those apps too for checking how much time on social media. It’s easy to get sucked in when you work online and manage social media accounts!

      I am just a sucker for Instagram and I know that I waste so much time on it. So I am trying to be mindful on that, so those apps are really helpful! Really cool job though Maegan! I can only imagine how hard that would be!

    These are some great tips! I always strive to be more productive and it is such a constant struggle. I think decluttering would be a great place to start. An organized home leads to a more organized life!

      Definitely agree! I decluttered my closet and created a home schedule template to layout the meals of the week and what area of the house to focus on.

    I need to work on clearing the clutter for sure. I have been better at staying on top of the girls to put away toys before getting new ones. The only thing now, is to figure what to do with the copious amounts of arts and crafts my girls do.

    I’ve pretty much been putting off the whole ‘organize your life’ thing this year but this morning is caught up with me and I found myself internally screaming “I need a schedule!” hahahaha

      Same! I use to think that the best thing to do is to live “freely” with no rules and routines but I found that having more systems in place make more time and make life a bit easier. 🙂

    Girl this entire post spoke to me. More like screamed at me to get my life together. I spend so much time wasting time and I also have a problem with stress and anxiety because I put too much on myself. So you are right. Focusing on my health, productivity, and decluttering are the main things I need to start working on.

    Excellent post! I have never thought of scheduling fun. I have fun moments but they are never planned. I think that goes hand in hand with not scheduling me time. I am going to make an effort to change that this year!

    Yes x 1000 to needing a new start in February! This year I used January as a “prep” month for the New Year and decided February 1 would be my personal New Year’s Day. That was such a good decision! One of my goals for February is to get my budget back on track. I use Mint but have neglected it for too many months. Also trying to knock out some doctor’s appointments so I can focus on long-term care for my body!

    These are some great tips! Declutering is so important…it sometimes makes us more stressed just having a mess there. And the ideas for technology are so important. It’s a great thing to have but super distracting. Thanks!
